Breastmilk. Mama Milk. Liquid Gold.
I’m a huge advocate for breastfeeding. There are so many amazing benefits for baby and mommy. What a lot of people don’t know though, is there is actually a ton of uses for breastmilk that don’t even include baby eating it. I’m talking legit home remedy uses for breastmilk!
I wanted to share with you some of these “mom hacks” for a natural way to treat everyday issues with your very own, self made, breastmilk.
I’ll be the first to admit, there was a time when I would have looked at some of these remedies and laughed at the thought. I mean, how the heck does simple breastmilk have any use other than nourishment for baby?
It’s liquid gold, people! Our bodies were made to do amazing things and taking care of our babies is pretty high up on that list!
It Was Like Magic!
In 2013, we had been home with our first little bundle of joy for about a week. Aside from the extreme exhaustion that comes with having a newborn, life was great. We were getting the hang of breastfeeding and even managed to create a good schedule.
Then I noticed my daughters eye had become pretty swollen around the inner corner. Being a new mom, I of course freaked out and did what any other mom would do in my situation.
Panicked Google search!
Before even scrolling for too long I came to the conclusion that she probably had a clogged tear duct, which is super common in newborns. Now the question was, what to do about it?
After more mommy mode detective work I found several articles about people using breastmilk for treatment. I was definitely skeptical about how effective it would be, but I decided to give it a shot.
I put a few drops in the inner corner of her eye, fed her and put her in her bassinet to sleep.
A couple hours later when she woke up my husband and I were both completely shocked! The swelling had gone down tremendously and there was barely a sign that anything had been wrong at all. It was like magic!
Over the course of the next 24 hours I applied breastmilk drops a couple more times. By the next day, it was completed cured.
After that I never doubted the awesome benefits of breastfeeding and other breastmilk uses. It honestly made me feel so empowered to know that not only can I feed my baby and nourish her, but I can literally heal her too!
You know how you hear that mom’s are superheroes, well it’s true! We have biological superpowers to take care of our babies.
Since then I have tried several other home remedy uses for breastmilk with the same results and I give myself a little hi-five every time.
Without further ado, I’d like to share with you some of the natural home remedies for breastmilk. I would like to disclaim though, that although these worked for me there is no guarantee. Every baby is different. Also, please consult with your baby’s pediatrician before taking any advice.
